This week was full of fun things. We got to celebrate MJ’s birthday (with ice cream :)), had some amazing food, learned some new things, and enjoyed an incredibly restful sabbath day yesterday. We had nothing scheduled except for meals, otherwise we had the entire day to do as we pleased. I have found that taking a full day of rest is a challenge and a bit uncomfortable for me. Back at home there was always something to do, someone to see, something make, something to clean, etc. I normally work 6 days a week, so my day off is usually filled with chores or doing stuff with friends, which is often restful for me, but still something on a to-do list. I found that I almost get a little stressed not having something to do. So I am working on embracing the discomfort and learning to enjoy having a restful day. I plan to continue that when I get home as well because it is important. We see in Exodus 20:8-11, the fourth commandment is to remember the sabbath and keep it holy. Then again in Exodus 31:12-18 God makes it clear how important the sabbath is and why it is needed. That was my major takeaway from this week that I feel like God is speaking to me.
In other news, we said goodbye to our squad mentor Cami and our fellow training camp friends and headed to the airport! We are sleeping on the ground which is quite humbling. I am immensely thankful for my sleeping pad (shoutout to my amazing cousin for loaning his to me for this trip), sleeping bag, and travel pillow! I have been able to make a very comfortable bed. We get to wake up at 5 AM (about four hours from now) to pack up and head through customs and security! I would appreciate prayers for safe travels, rest, positive attitudes, and opportunities to share the gospel as we finally head out to our first destination outside of training camp. Nicaragua here we come:)
Here is a little view of our sleeping set up for the night.
